On the Move
Some may have noticed my postings becoming a little more irregular than usual. Though I prefer to publish each weekend, our plans have prevented this more than I like. The reason is that my family and I are moving to the Los Angeles area.
We have had a most interesting time in South Dakota over the last year and seven months. It was not what we expected, but it taught us what we needed to learn. Such is how the Gods work.
When we start a new adventure, we never truly know what we are getting into. Whether it be a new job, new apartment, new religious group or a new part of the world, all are initiations. It is the nature of initiation that the initiate thinks they know what it’s about, then find out they knew nothing. They cannot know what it involves ahead of time because it is the process of becoming the new, higher self that creates the initiation.
The ritual (or interview, drive, visit, etc.) is simply the seed that is planted. The seed may die if the person is too afraid to let it grow. Or it may grow in completely unexpected and beautiful ways. Unfortunately for a spiritual teacher, as my wife and I have learned, we cannot predict or control whether the seed lives or dies. Only the initiate has any true control or influence over this. It is up to them to choose: Life or Death.
When we left Minneapolis for Aberdeen, South Dakota, we tried to imagine what life would be like. After the move, we found that we were wrong in many ways. Our religious group never grew to the size we envisioned, due to the population and energy of the area. But we learned to focus better on the few who did want to be a part of it. We learned to focus on our own spiritual development more, without the “distraction” of running an active group. Group leaders have to watch that they don’t give all of their energy and focus to their group, but reserve some for themselves and make sure they are doing their own personal development work. Otherwise, they stagnate and can become bitter at the lack of personal fulfillment.
The Gods have told us, in many ways, it is time to move on. We are quite antsy here and long for the cultural and community opportunities a large city offers. So, we are going to be leaving Aberdeen this weekend for the last time. We will be driving to the San Gabriel region of LA, arriving in June.
We are group-minded people, so if anyone knows of any good Wiccan/magical groups in LA, please let me know. We would like to meet with people and become a part of the community there.
Due to the move, the Hawk’s Cry will be silent for probably a few weeks.
Until we meet again, blessed be.

Good luck with the move, the new ‘ritual’ sometimes starting new is like starting over, and most of the times a fun and exciting experience!

Thanks all for the well-wishes. As the final days of packing go by, I can almost hear a cheap-intercom-voice call out, “Keep your hands in the car at all times and stay seated until the car comes to a complete stop…”
